A Handwritten Note Goes A Long Way…..

On December 7, 2017 by sandra

In the world of technology and in an era where we can immediately send our friends, family, colleagues, and clients a very quick email or text message with a special note or type out a  Facebook or Instagram shoutout , it is easy to forget that a handwritten note goes a very long way.

Let’s take it back a little bit….For me personally, I have always been obsessed with stationary. I mean, I don’t even know if the word obsessed can accurately describe this….maybe mega, mega, MEGA obsessed?? =)  Cute paper pads, colorful pens, sticky notes, cute cards, and stickers  has been something that I have loved using as a child and  now even as an adult I find myself purchasing and using these items.  You would think  I would have grown out of this phase by now, but totally not the case!  You will still find me sending my friends care packages or cards on special occassions full of stickers on the outer packaging and of course always written in colorful pens or markers and decorated with stickers on the inside. (just like we did in our school days) In my professional life, you will find me writing  hand written cards for individuals who have made a special impact in my life,  did something for me that I’m extremely grateful about, or a congratulatory note on an amazing accomplishment.  It’s my way of showing immense appreciation or happiness for that individual and I think it’s a nice special touch.

I personally love receiving handwritten notes as well and on first thought you may think ” It is because of her crazy stationary obsession, isn’t it?,” but in reality it is not the case. In fact,  often times my most favorite handwritten notes are not necessarily “embellished with stickers” or ” on special card paper; ”  it’s more so about one thing in particular– the effort. The effort that an individual made to spend time to write and personally deliver or mail a hand written note to tell me their gratitude, compliments, congratulations, etc.

A few years ago, I found myself thinking ‘If I love handwritten notes on stationary so much, I’m sure there are so many people out there who do so as well!?” I can tell you that  this thought gets proven to me over and over again as I see and hear about the reactions  from my colleagues, friends, my boss, staff, and the list goes on and on. Even those people who I may not necessarily think are ” gushy” or sentimental and I get scared thinking ” oh my gosh did I go overboard on decorating their card?,” I see them cracking a smile and really appreciating the special touch even if the cute stationary thing is not their thing. You see, we all want to feel valued and appreciated in life and a simple note can do that for somebody. The fact that someone cared enough to take time out of his/her day to write a handwritten note when it could easily be done by the click of our computers or smart phones actually means something.

Now I’m not saying go out there and buy all this cute stationary, what I’m saying is if you are thinking of someone, want to thank someone, want to encourage someone, congratulate someone, take time to write a handwritten note in your OWN  personal touch. It really makes all the world of a difference!!!!

Tell me how you write special notes for your friends and colleagues or how you use stationary to make others feel special! I would love to hear your tips!

And until next time…..

Bachigner XOXO,

Sandra
